Our new XR would show empty and had probably 75cc left in it. We took a level to it and noticed the machine was out of level slightly leaning back... so we took some pvc and stacked it under the back wheels till it was slightly leaned forward and the cartridges come out very empty now. Try it. Hundreds of dollars in ink saving and it costs like a dollar in pvc. I should patten this first though...

We recycle cartridges at Staples. They give members $2 per cartridge, as long as you're buying a certain amount of ink from them (desktop printer ink, I mean).
