Are EPL3 the upwards compatible version of EPL2 in Mimaki printers?

Unfortunately it's more complicated than that. What model machine are you working on?

It’s a JV300. Do tell...

The EPL3 board is the upward compatible board for that machine but you do need to also get a conversion kit to get it to work. Mostly different cables from the slider board to the main board. These boards work in multiple machines which is why some can upgrade and some can't.
