Hi, I need help to fix my HP Designjet 9000s,
Almost three weeks ago while printing I get message, OPEN L IK COVER3, CHECK K INK.
I open and check ink and there was maybe 20% left, but I was getting that massage, so bought new ink, but nothing change. I bought second new ink and same problem.
I call local technician he ask me to change cheep reader from my other printer, I change and same problem, technician visited my store check everything and he did not know what to do, he suggested to change matherbard I did it next day but nothing change. He sad that it is software error and to reset I have to buy new inks. am afraid to spend additional money. I use orginal inks from grimco which are for seico printer. I hope maybe someone of you have that problem in past or know how to fix it.

I would say you have a chip gone bad in one of the other 2 cartriges in that ink bank. Check the light cyan and light magenta. I have seen it before, that a chip in one ink cartrige corrupts one or both of the other 2 chips in the same ink bank. Do you have access to a chip programmer? The ink chips are different between the Seiko Color Painter and the hp9000s.

If there is no damage to the cartridge, chip or connector, it is possible that the ink sensor has gone bad.

where is the ink sensor, if it is after the cheep it is ok, I think I have to look for cheep programmer and reset all of them or bye only cheep and replace them?

hmmm....i think if you have checked the chip reader board and this is ok is the next step to checkout the subtank(empty/full) contact...subtank is a silver back and on the side from subtankbag is a metalframe thats slide a sensor full or empty....

Whats going on with the subtank sensor...... is subtank emtpy so the inkpump will work to fill the subtank max 2-3 minutes work the inkpump.....if they become not in this timelimit a SUBTANK FULL REQUEST the machine elektronik thing the INK CART is empty and reset your chip to zero.

you can check it from elektronik side if this sensor work ! Next is manually test.....bring the sensor manually to full position and show if the cartridge accepted.
Next to check if the inkpump works correct !

I had a technician from local distributor, he checked everything and everything worked, but he did not know what is happening with massage. He contact HP and let me know that to reset i have to buy all new inks, and that is my point it is a lot of money. What if I buy them but problem will be not fix. I already bought 3 black inks. I need help from somebody who knows exactly what to do. I tried to contact specialists but no one is calling me back. If I will have money I will buy new printer.

3 thinks to check......

1st. Chip contacts often broken 1 nipple.
2nd ink pump/tubing
3rd subtank sensor

thats it !!!

But you need a ink cartridge that have a working chip !!!

New chip can be reset to zero from system if the subtank not filling in time !!!

Nothing more nothing less.

that a technican check your machine is not a garant thats all ok. Recheck and your problems solved.

I had the same issue, it was the "subtank sensor". I had to turn off printer thenbefore turning it back on, manually bring the sensor to a full position until it recogizes the new chip.
