Roland XJ-740 bearing issue - need advice

Just had a tech here looking at our Roland XJ-740. We were told the linear bearing are bad and need to be replaced. This particular company says that the linear rail and bearings are one piece and the whole thing needs to be replaced. Cost of part about $1400 plus $500 shipping.

Spoke with a tech from another company that claims they've never had to replace the linear rail - just the bearing block which is significantly less expensive.

Has anyone encountered this problem and which was did you end up going?

Roland only sells the bearing blocks and rail as a complete assembly. They calibrate the bearings to the rail They don't sell the bearing blocks separately. If it's a Roland tech that gave you the first quote, that's the option that he has. If you can find the bearing blocks available separately, they aren't coming from Roland but may work and yes, for considerably less.
