Setting up engraving file in illustrator

We are trying to make some signs like this on our esko table using the engraving tool. How can I set up my file in illustrator so that the numbered text at the bottom is just the text that's engraved and not outlined like at the top of the picture? When I type it in illustrator with no stroke then send it over as a pdf to my icut production console it shows up as outlines still as if I had added a stroke to the text even though I didn't. Thanks for any help.

You probably need an engraving (i.e. single stroke) font. The width of the final strokes is determined by the bit and depth.

Illustrator should have a postscript fill option like Corel where you can ad a fill to outlined text. Otherwise using single line fonts with correct cutter you can get wider cut line on larger text.
