U-Clamp sign post bracket?

Anybody recognize this bracket and have a source? It's about 8"w. x 3.5"h. and about 1.5" deep.

I don't recall ever seeing anything quite like it. Is it a hollow tube where the u-bolt fits through or is it open ?? Could be home-made ??


Seriously, if they don't mind the two bolts holding the bracket fast, why not skip the bracket and just let the u-bolt go straight through ??

might be carriage bolts, nicer looking than a nut

That's what I was thinking. I may need to go a different route altogether. The front of the sign needs to be left blank and white for temporary magnetics to go on, so I guess it needs to be flat. Might have to weld the bracket to the back.
