VP-540 Message: Printer is disconnected. Check for cause Any ideas?

Working with an older VP-540 VersaCamm and yesterday I started getting this weird message after trying to start a print: Printer is disconnected. Check for cause.

We had just printed an 18' long banner with no problem before I switched media and was starting a run of decals.

I've restarted my RIP station, the printer and checked every connection back to the network.

Any ideas on what it could be?

Have you tried connecting the printer direct to the computer rather than through the network? Also, when you power down the printer, turn off the main power too, not just the secondary power.

Good luck.

DIY Printer Fixing Guide
The best way to troubleshoot the connection is to connect the printer directly to the computer. You will have to use a cross-over cable if your operating system is older than Windows 7. Otherwise a regular Ethernet cable will work. If you can connect to the printer to the computer directly and print, you have network issues with the settings in the router, network hardware that isn't in the computer or printer, or somewhere else on the network there is an IP conflict such as another device or computer is using the same IP as the printer. Have you added any new computers or devices to the network? If so, that could be where the IP conflict is.

Disconnected

I had the same problem, found out windows had downloaded a upgrade and it would change the IP address on my printer. It happen a couple day in a row, what a pain having to reset the IP address on the printer and the computer. Working fine now with no issues. Hope this helps.
