Whats your experience with the Epson S80600 Printers?

Ours is negative, compared to the previous experience with the similar type Mimaki printers. We owned Epson for bout 4-5 years, and in this time - Had to pay to extend warranty twice, I believe it was $2500 per year. Both heads went bad on the 2nd year and had to be replaced under warranty. Also, the wind up take up motor went bad, and had to be replaced under warranty. This past 1.5-2yr we were flying with no warranty, and one of the heads went bad (electrical short cut issues). We had to tape it off, and disconnect it, and were able to run the printer in a single head mode for about 4 months. Now the last remaining print head shorted and needs replacement. We're a very clean, mindful, and experienced users. I do not think our environment or procedures caused any of the problems we had. We also never run silver/gold/white and the silver slot always had a solvent cleaning cart in. I'm checking to see if any other seasonal operators had similar amount of issues or did we get an unlucky lemon and our negative experience is a single printer issue?

Kind of like cars, age doesn't tell as much as mileage, how much square footage have you printed on it? If you had these problems running the printer 8hrs per day for 5 years then that is amazing, if an hour per day maybe not great

i had 2 and both had a lot of issues, tech was at the shop at least twice a month to fix something all the time, great print quality but i am much happier running latex printers now.

Have had a S60600 for just over a year and not a single problem yet, knock on wood.

Also curious what your mileage is, that will make things a bit more understandable.

We have had ours for ... 4-5 years now? No problems - well except one day a few months ago it threw and error, and we had to have an epson tech come out to fix it, but other than that it's a work horse and we love it.

I have been operating a S80600 for over a year here. No problems other than a very noisy fan. I know of 5 others at other shops with no issues. We all enjoy using ours.

Always good to know. I have been considering getting the same unit. Changing from Roland which I have had little to no issues with over 10+years. The maintenance on the epson looks different or additional things to do.

I've had an S80600 for about 10 months after more than 10 years of service from an S70670 I had a Mimaki JV3 before that. Hands down the S80600 is by far the best I've had.

I note one word in your post that may account for the problems you've had: seasonal. Though it seems the S80600 is better about this than the S70670, I believe seasonal use will kill a printer faster than anything else.

I apologize for a typo. I was trying to type "a seasoned user", meaning I was directing this question for those who's already over the first 12-18month roses and chocolates sweet period of using the printer and into 3rd and more year of use, there issues start to show up.

I forgot to add to our list of issues with this printer - the little control "Down" button is busted and making it extremely hard to navigate menus. As well as a hold down Lever became very lose at one period of time there we were expected it would finally fall off, and then seemed to magically fixed it self.

I have had mine since it came out. Replaced the heads once and the dampr system once. I am waiting until the new models comes out now to upgrade.

I also had a S70670 and had great luck with that too. haha

Well thank you guys. I guess I’m so used the the old generation printers there with the proper care I considered print heads for life of the printer, and I’m not used to the new norm it seems to replace heads once or twice in the 4-6 year period. I appreciate the feedback all and will adjust my expectations accordingly

What generation of printer had "lifetime" heads? The Mimaki JV3 I started with 18 years ago required constant work with the print heads and dampers to keep them alive, and after a couple of years I was doing print head changes so much that I quit paying techs and learned how to do it myself and also started finding cheaper sources for the parts.

In my personal experience that were the jv33s and cjv160s. Had about 5 of them in service that I bought and sold on the original heads
