WinXP question about view menu

Does anyone know of a way to force windows to open with the detail view
every time. I understand that folder options>view> remember view settings
*should* do this- it does not. Seems that thumbnail, tiles, icons or list is the
only options where it will *stick*. I like to go to details and click date modified
twice and the latest files will be on top. Handy when working on 10-15 files at
a time (as well as my daughter saving files) and the old memory is faulty- ya
can't remember what you called the file you just sent to the Ripper sta to print.
Anyone have any magic for me- the amount of knowledge on this board is
staggering and you have helped me many times before. Thanks Gene

Set the folder up the way you want... (details, sort, etc...)
Then:
Tools-Folder Options-View-Apply to All Folders (sets the details view & other options like view system files)
Then:
Hold the CTRL key while closing the folder with the red-x in the top rt corner (to lock the sort order)

If none of this works then you may need to so do some manual registry cleanup to correct a corrupted store. (where windows keeps all these details) Once the cleanup is done & pc rebooted then you can attempt the settings changes again.
