Wrestling Room at High School Signs with multiple names

Humble PM

Mostly tolerates architects
Here are some that we did. We used adhesive backed magnetic material and we'll use printable magnet material to add to these. Just finished them so we'll likely be trying it out next year. I used to add cut vinyl to each name/record with a ladder and it was a PITA!
Time for a refresh, when the girls win the 1600 mile relay this year, next, And the following. Like is as a solution.

i would do cut vinyl on these BUT the biggest issue with these are you may do them fo a few years but then they get new administration and they end up calling someone else and they cant match fonts
This is what happened. The old ones were originally put up by a company I used to work for and we used a specific yellow. The athletic director passed away and someone new came in and used another company. When the new guy that replaced him called me last year, there were several different yellows and sized fonts and they were running out of room. It was long overdue.
I had been thinking about what I would do for years if I ever got the chance to replace them. I'm hoping this outlasts me or at least until I "retire" (retirement age anyway). Magnetic material holds really well to it, we ran a few tests first. It would suck if these started falling off one day.

It has been mentioned a few times, but covering the existing signs with adhesive-backed magnet and then printing on magnetic receptive media is a great way to go for this. Any amateur can apply and remove new and old names. Inexpensive. One of my customers does this for menu boards. I donated this material for my old high school track record boards....it is easy and inexpensive.

I like making signs
What is the best way to make the magnets? I need them 2" x 27", 120 of them - I have a straight edge and a knife, no fancy cutting equipment

Straight edge and a knife is the best way to cut magnet (unless you have one of those fancy flatbed chingaderos ). Apply your printed vinyl on the magnetic media, and then score it with your knife. Use a fresh blade and change often, score it like 1/3 to 1/2 way through and then flex, it'll pop right apart. Magnetic media is super easy to do IMHO. Way easier to do straight cuts like that than the stupid rounded corners on vehicle magnets (which I kinda hate doing).

Yep, straight edge and a knife, that's how I cut magnet. If you use the 30mil magnet like we use for vehicle magnets, it's pretty easy to cut.
We have a rounder that makes radius corners really easy.

I just said that

And so far I've been too cheap to buy a corner rounder, so a metal can and a razor knife probably makes it harder than it needs to be :p

I was agreeing with you. But you made it sound more involved with the scoring and whatnot. I just cut it, one pass.
Before we got the corner rounder we used a washer.

Make your vinyl incorporate the edges of the magnets, apply all at once, come back with a snap off blade to cut out. Like this:

Alternatively, a large guillotine cutter would be nice, don't think I've seen one that 27" wide. A shear is really great for magnets, as they stick to the platen nicely and cuts so easily.

I’ve ordered some printed magnetics from Signs 365. It’s a thin material but looks very nice, they’re uv printed . If all the same (not your case) can order them all cut up and even rounded.
If not, can order a sheet that you’ll cut.
The only thing with them is that you have to round up price wise to the next linear ft each way.
