Contact cleaner is good but it dries out too fast unless you can spray it directly onto the conacts. We've been using this method in electrical substations for 20+ years.
It could possibly be dirty contacts in the switch. Spray wd40 or another penetrating lube into the opening around the switch and operate it a dozen or so times to wash away any contaminants.
If you have greased bearings on anything, never use an aerosol type oil. The petroleum in the spray will eat the oil in the grease and leave only a soap substance. The chemical reaction with the propane or butane used as the propellant will solidify the soap.
I ran into a similar deal. Look at your screen on the plotter, mine read error when I got to the point your at. Scroll through some options and bingo. If you dont read anything in your window, get a new cable.
Went thru the same thing you are. Ended up buying signtools 3 and running out of corel, they had all the drivers. Had a bunch of problems, all fairly minor, but ended up buying a good plotter, ADP. I suggest to cut your losses now. If you need to keep going make sure you have the right sr232...
Call desay he'll send you the drivers. You will need to buy the rs232 cord, I believe it is or try a modem adapter. Once you get it going you'll want to dump it like I did.
