I used to scan the hand lettered fonts out of Signcraft, vectorize them, and use them for headers.

I scanned fonts from Signs of the Times,Atkinson sign painting & Speedball books and digitized them over 10 years ago,
but they became cumbersome tying to use them without the proper kerning that Corel Draw would accommodate, There's no violation of copyright involved. Monks & Romans probably didn't worry about it.
