This is nice if you don't need to hit a known device build. You wouldn't be able to control the green without it being affected by an Illustrator effect.
We would do a solid fill of the green as one object...then put a seperate black to transparent gradient over the top.
Sometimes vice versa. It's how we handle it when customers do a pantone to pantone gradient...which gives about the same neutralization as your top example.
The kicker is we can only be 100% accurate on one of them. The other needs to be converted to process to avoid the issue you've shown.
Then we can still get at a corrected color in the rip.
