When I spoke to tech support the 'expiration' is more about how much ribbon is left on the roll. The printer writes to the chip so when you change the ribbon you change the chip... I can't imagine someone would have let an old chip when replacing the ribbon though which is why I feel like this...

i figured as much. I'm told it's all there... (possibly disassembled) I pick it up tomorrow. If anything it'll be worth the price for the pickup reel parts and anything i can slavage as backup parts for my 310 Can you tell from that photo what i'm missing so I can be sure to ask about it...
