I have been working in digital printing for over 30 years. I have hands-on experience with aqueous, solvent, UV, Resin, and dye sublimation technology. I have a large (and expanding) print shop that has taken over my home. I test and evaluate hardware, software, and every type of media application in real-world conditions. My day job includes developing new products for S-One/LexJet, both hardware and software.
My current focus is on video and communication. I just completed a professional video studio with state-of-the-art mics and cameras to create content both live streaming and pre-recorded. In my years at HP, and now with LexJet, I have created hundreds of YouTube videos on many subjects related to digital printing. All the HP Latex videos out there? I wrote, directed, and even edited most of them. I have hundreds more on the way.

What is the Practical Printer?
The Practical Printer is exactly what the title suggests: digital printing for practical people. We aim to explain digital printing, in plain language, for busy people on tight deadlines, who would like to better understand the many facets of digital printing. The purpose of the practical printer is to make digital printing more coherent, to offer clarity to the perplexed.
I’m proud to consider this my chosen profession, and I love both the business, and the people I work with, and I intend to make entertaining and informative videos to communicate my affection.
I believe many of you would like to be more involved in the big picture, to explore new ideas and technologies--but with payroll, quarterly taxes, three big jobs due at week’s end, and your main installer calling in sick, you never seem to find the time. Hopefully, I can help keep you informed on best practices, new products, and industry trends.
I’m going shoot videos to communicate what I find, and then add my own personal thoughts and observations about the products and technologies I discover. Where I can, I will test them here myself.
I will do reviews, promotions, and interviews, and will highlight the best ideas and products on the market. I’m rarely the smartest guy in the room, but I often know who is, and I’ll find them and try to pass along their wisdom.
The Practical printer is not intended to be a sales pitch; I’m not selling anything except my agenda.
If you have something important to offer or say, or a product you think people should know about, drop me a note; I’m always interested in meeting new people and seeing cool technology. I’ll be glad to help get the word out.
My workshop is in North Georgia on Lake Sidney Lanier. If you are nearby, please stop by and visit. Bring a bottle of wine, a cigar, and a smile when you come. I’ll cook for everyone.
