  1. Looking for an automated workflow system!

Unless I'm missing something, that doesn't seem like the volume of work that would require anything special. 2 printers, a laminator and a plotter should be able to handle the workload no problem. If they are all printed on the same media, 1 printer may suffice, at our shop when we get busy...
  2. Got in too deep. Need advice for (2) 48x210 faces

Without seeing the sign up close its hard to know fr sure, but 99% of backlit signs this size are made with something called "flex face" which is like a translucent banner, it installs very differently to polycarbonate, it has to be tensioned all around the perimeter to get the wrinkles out, how...
  3. 3M 8508 Laminate Shrinking... Tired of the Manufacturer Blaming us

I'm not doubting you, but what would the point be of making a 4 year cast film when there are already plenty of calendered films that can last that long no problem? The process of making a cast film is more expensive than calendered, so 3M is spending the $ to make a cast vinyl then selling it...
  4. 3M 8508 Laminate Shrinking... Tired of the Manufacturer Blaming us

Just to make matters more confusing, this is the sample card i have for 8508, which states 5 year outdoor life, and lists it for use with Calandered vinyl. when i peel the lam off the backer it feels very much like a calandered laminate, it has very little stretch to it, like Oracal 210.
  5. 3M 8508 Laminate Shrinking... Tired of the Manufacturer Blaming us

  6. Is the backing to Mac tac vinyl recyclable?

Around here asking such a question to the city staff at the dump would be met with a open mouth stare and a stern "i donno"
  7. 3M 8508 Laminate Shrinking... Tired of the Manufacturer Blaming us

OMG I really hope they step up to the plate for you! The only time I've seen that is when we used a super cheap calendered laminate, and it took almost 3 years outside for it to happen Hopefully they make this right for you, but my past experience with warrantee claims with vinyl...
  8. 60" vinyl on synthetic liner?

    anyone?
  9. National sign installer database

Good luck. One of our wholesale clients had a similar job 2 years ago, he's still cleaning up the mess left by some of the installers, the logistics alone and being the point of contact for all locations almost put him in an early grave. I have a hard enough time getting 1 installer to show...
  10. 60" vinyl on synthetic liner?

Does anyone know of a 2 mil cast white vinyl that comes on a plastic synthetic liner? The 3M electrocute is only available up to 48" wide. This is for cutting only, not printing Thanks
  11. Add printer help...

In one of the menus on the printer it displays the IP address and all that stuff for you. Also Google "intercon net tool" it will find the printers IP address and help you sort it out If you are still having issues there are a ton of videos on YouTube showing step by step instructions, I've...
  12. Is the backing to Mac tac vinyl recyclable?

Around here is goes in the garbage. Which sucks but they won't take it doe to the silicone content. If you want to get rid of it for free, local preschools, day cares and art schools will all gladly take it off your hands.
  13. Versaworks and Summa

Ok it sounds like the easiest way to go is to buy a Roland cutter so we can use the printer and cutter together without changing our workflow. How do the Roland cutters compare quality wise against the summa and graphtec's?
  14. Help before I jump...

We have a rolls roller entry model, LOVE IT let me know if you have any specific questions
  15. Versaworks and Summa

Up until now we have used our roland print/cut machine as our plotter as well, but we are possibly going to be buying a standalone cutter, a Summa. I have a question about the workflow with this setup, lets say I have a job of 200 decals to print & cut, right now I set up a single decal, send...
  16. What do you think of this new toy?

Yup, pretty much sums it up, gas it the cheapest it's been in years but there is still a $5 fuel surcharge, even when I told them to put it on my purolator account. Also the CONSTANT bartering and haggling you need to do with them, most other suppliers offer you a certain % off retail pricing...
  17. Did I get bad vinyl, or did the customer install this wrong?

It will continue to lift, but you may be able to fix it with some clear vinyl, wrapped around the edges. But it depends on how badly you want to keep this client, they bought this sign as cash & carry, if they paid for your expert installation, you would warantee against these defects. You...
  18. Did I get bad vinyl, or did the customer install this wrong?

Or they used the impact gun on the one side, saw what happened and were more careful on the other side. but still want to blame you
  19. Did I get bad vinyl, or did the customer install this wrong?

They over tightened the bolts, probably put them on with an impact gun., can you trim around the washer with a knife and reset the vinyl? Other than that there is no real way to fix it. it's 100% the clients fault, they over tightened them, but judging by your stories, they will never see it...
  20. E-Panel Shrink / Expansion Question...

I had a sheet de-laminate once, but it was some no name brand we got from a new supplier for around $25/sheet, so not suprizing.
