  1. Bending Over Backward for Customers

Gino, the implication that I don't work diligently is insulting. I made 2 posts on my break and had to take 2 split 45 minutes and odd times for lunch today to cover the phones. I do value your perspective on this though. I would actually like someone to just tell what level I am meant to be at.
  2. Bending Over Backward for Customers

Let me just make this clear I posted this thread to get perspective on my current situation. I appreciate all the input I've been given, even the contrary ones. Perhaps someone could tell me what the norm is? The previous poster insinuated my designs aren't very good. I really have no idea how...
  3. Bending Over Backward for Customers

The point of bring up my personal situation was not to win pity points with anyone but to show that I am as committed to remaining employed and by extension being a good employee as he is to keeping his doors open.
  4. Bending Over Backward for Customers

Well a lot of the problem is we have really no guidelines about acceptable formats and the like. I've brought up the issue before but the answer I've been given is that "the customer is always right" and that the management doesn't want to lose potential business by enforcing a policy like that...
  5. Bending Over Backward for Customers

Well on my lunch break so just taking a quick second to address all the employers who've responded. I can appreciate the position owners in that their hourly paid employees will never feel the sting of coming up short for the bills. But at the same time I'm just as invested in being employed as...
  6. Bending Over Backward for Customers

Well thanks for all the input. Anything else anyone wants to add is welcome, though if you pose any questions directly to me please don't think I'm ignoring you. At this point I really need to make some head way on my backlog.
  7. Bending Over Backward for Customers

Well you raise good points which is part of the reason I came to this site to put this situation into perspective. I make about 10/hr which I understand for this town and this economy is about all I can expect though it does irk me that friends from highschool who have invested less time...
  8. Bending Over Backward for Customers

Well this is an example of about what I can produce given an hour including the orginal illustration. Also the cards I mentioned, the result of about 5 hours and fair bit of starting over and input from my employer. I really don't like the fact that it took me so long to make what amounts to...
  9. Bending Over Backward for Customers

This is my second year with this company and about 4 years altogether working in the sign business. I had been working on a degree in commercial art that I didn't finish because I ran out of money. As to the question am I any good? I know I am head and shoulders above my predecessors at this...
  10. Bending Over Backward for Customers

Well thanks for the quick responses. It certainly does put things in perspective and good to know my gripes aren't completely baseless.
  11. Bending Over Backward for Customers

It is more when I hear things like: "Figure out how to make it work or I'll find someone who can." that make me wonder if I wouldn't be better off serving coffee at starbuck's for only half a dollar less an hour.
  12. Bending Over Backward for Customers

Been lurking off and on for awhile, but now I have a generic gripe to air and can hopefully get some feedback from others in the sign business to help put this in perspective. I work as the only designer at my company. In addition to that I also am the only experienced print tech for our wide...
