  1. Reverse Channel Letters on Corrugated Steel Wall?

It's going to bend the light but it would probably look pretty cool. The bigger concern is what color the wall is.
  2. Amazing Employees

Agreed - there are tons of options for work but there are not tons of options for good workers. That unfortunately probable means that he's more valuable to you than you are to him. Since you only have a few employees, I would imagine losing him would have a significant impact on your...
  3. crazy window perf illusion

I've probably posted this before but it's kind of along the same line of unexpected results. Had a bunch of doors with etched glass for privacy. The customer wanted "Restricted Access" signs on the door. The sign company shipped me clear vinyl with printed text. Turns out if you put clear vinyl...
  4. Suggestions What kind of studs should I use to install 1/2" acrylic numbers to limestone?

3/16" is the typical size of the hole drilled. The studs themselves are likely 10-24 threaded rod ("studs") and will thread into the backs of the letters/numbers. If the existing are 10-24 and you only have 10-32 (or vice versa), those can still be threaded into the holes in the letter, you'll...
  5. Need Help Drilling through brick problem

In a lot of brick (I would say most), you can drill your holes for studs with a standard hammer drill as long as you use a good bit (Diablo, Bosch or Hilti). I don't know why someone would ever choose to do so over where there are SDS drills, but you can. Some brick is simply much, much harder...
  6. Need Help Installing Vista Systems on Glass

I've installed thousands like this and have never had the vinyl lift. My guess is someone pulled on the sign or the vinyl wasn't squeegeed down hard enough and left air. From an install and aesthetic standpoint, the best approach, in my opinion, is a blank piece of Rowmark on the back of the...
  7. Suggestions Handicap Van Accessible Sign Placement?

No criteria that I'm aware of, but with that lack of space, the sign posts are going to get hit. That (those?) spot(s) in front of the store front should have a bollard with a sign post coming out of it....my two cents. That will protect the sign/post from getting damaged and prevent someone...
  8. Looks like an installation nightmare...

It was NOT fun lol. I think I did 6 sets in total. It was definitely a long day.
  9. Looks like an installation nightmare...

The above process was used for these. Different surfaces, but the same process.
  10. Looks like an installation nightmare...

They're honestly not hard, you just need some patience. Tape the pattern up, use a long reach marker or Pica type pencil to mark your holes on the wall, then drill. The nice thing about wood is that even if you mark/drill a hole slightly off, you can tweak the letter enough to get it where it...
  11. Looking for Guidance on Sign Permitting in New York

Appreciate the confidence, but I'm not a permit guy lol and have no desire to be. I've done my share but I'm no expert and don't enjoy dealing with that end of things. Side note: It's super common for people to assume that when anyone mentions anything about New York that they're automatically...
  12. Drywall Anchors

There's going to be a hole in the wall regardless. It doesn't matter if it's 1/4" or 1/2". It's the same process to repair. You're the professional - customers shouldn't dictate install hardware. As far as which is best, it depends on the size of the sign and how far off the wall it is. Sheer...
  13. Laminating 1/4" Acrylic to Brushed Aluminum with 3M 5952 Tape

Do you have any long, narrow pieces in the project? Like rule lines or underscores, like these?: If so, you may want to use solid aluminum for those pieces as they tend to warp if laminated.
  14. Square pole mount

He mentioned it's 10" steel tube. I would only drill and tap the side where the cable needs to attach. Don't really see a need to run something through the entire piece of tube or drill an extra hole. The nut/washer/lock washer are to ensure the eyebolt don't spin loose. They would be sit next...
  15. Square pole mount

    Like so:
  16. Square pole mount

This is how I would do it: Drill and tap a 1/4"-20 hole in each steel tube Thread a closed eyebolt into each hole (include nut, washer and lock washer - tighten against outside of tube) Attach a quick link to each eyebolt Hang a closed eye turnbuckle from each quick link Extend each...
  17. Moze?

Was searching for something and came across this thread. The move went well. Glad to be out of Dallas. I should have left years ago. These are our new neighbors. I like them way better than our old ones: CLICK & CLICK
  18. Remote Position: Code Research & Permit Acquisition

Imperial Signs is looking to hire an individual to handle Code Research and Permit Acquisition. This would be a combined position that would likely turn into two separate positions down the road. For this combined position, experience would be required in each field. This position can be handled...
  19. SEG frame from Sign Comp

I would get it turnkey from SEG. They sell them pre-populated with LED's. Super easy assembly and install. Fair pricing. Great QC, crating, etc.
  20. Installing acrylic letters

Studs are a necessity at that size. You might be able to measure the mortar line spacing and place studs on the letters accordingly, but the install world isn't usually that perfect. You'll likely wind up having to drill in the brick at some point because the mortar line fluctuates or something.
