Update :
Pulled the cover off of the FX ( 2 Allen screws on the back, 2 Allen screws on the inside )
Noticed the screw coming out of the motor was binding a bit against a cross member in the machine - that cant be good.
Turned on the machine and waited for it to cycle and home -- it worked...
This has been done on a regular basis -- even tried it today ( kinda pointless if it won't budge : ) Gerber says to do the same thing --fast fact # 4290.

Thanks - this link is where I had my question origionally posted . No discusion of the HOMING ERROR though.
I had a few more minutes to think about it .... if the head won't move , I woulld get a homing error .
I may have to call service on this one.

My trusty Gerber FX took a dump today -- I was not in my shop when it happened but it went something like this.
machine was booted up ( turned on ), beeped a couple of times, and as the head was to cycle up and down ( homing ) it started to make a loud grinding or buzzing noise...
