Run the Optimizer Printhead Depletion Plot. It is possible that the Optimizer printhead is losing a significant number of nozzles mid-print, resulting in ink bleed on the media.
HP recently introduced a new Al-In-One (hybrid) flatbed Latex printer called the R530. It comes in at under 100k, and produces the among the highest image quality on an entry level flatbed printer that I have seen. It is even easier to use than the FBs, supports your preferred workflow of...
Use the Media Feed Tool that came in the box with the Latex 700 printer. Using it reduces lead-edge waste to 8-10 inches, solves the carriage crashing and ink smear issues, and is compatible with the vast majority of medias 48-inches wide or wider. Here is a video on hot to load and use the tool:
The key is to more vibrant colors on a 300 Series printer is to print using a higher ink density. As a test, I would install the media package for 3M 3930 Traffic Colors v3. The Media Locator is here: https://www.printos.com/ml/#/medialocator search 3930 Traffic Colors and pull down the OMS...
This is the HP Satin Wrapping Paper printed on a 300 Series HP Latex printer. There are media presets for this paper for the 300/ 500 Series as well as 630/ 700/ 800 Series on the HP PrintOS Media Locator.
This media is available in 150-foot rolls in 30-inch widths- part number is Z6G70A. Standard widths for pre-printed wrapping paper are 24, 30, and 36 inches.
You should have received a tool in the box with the printer called a Media Feed Tool which helps to resolve lead-edge waste on the 700/ 800 Series. Here is a video tutorial on how to use this tool:
The cost of of quality polymeric calendared (54-inch x 50 yard) vinyl roll is roughly $200, this is close to $.30 per square foot - with many costing more than this. Even the least expensive economy grade monomeric vinyl is difficult to find at $.15 per square foot ($101 for a 54-inch x 50 yard...
Printing to roll media and mounting to a board is how most shops get their start with rigid, but that process is far more more expensive and error-prone (requires the board + film) plus more labor cost in mounting compared to printing direct to boards. The R530 is not a speed demon by any...
The standard blade for the Latex Cutter is a 36-degree knife which is compatible with the drag knife cutter from the Summa D-Series or S-One Series cutters. Any Summa reseller should be able to sell these blades in single or multi-packs. In addition, there are 3rd-party blades from various...
Print the Color Calibration chart and post it. It contains ramps for all 6 inks and makes it easy to see what is going on with inks - see attached for the chart.
Sorry, cannot help with the quoting question.
I would recommend that you gain some understanding of the media that they will be providing (i.e. polyester or vinyl/ clear or colored) and then print using an available media preset for a similarly-constructed media. The PrintOS Media Locator is...
2d view of a typical Latex Gen3 gamut at 120percent ink density.
Expired inks that have fallen out of solution will cause big issues with colors and gamut.
Test and make adjustments. Any recommendations are going to be only 'starting places' to begin adjustments from. There are literally hundreds of SAV films on the market, and each of them are somewhat unique in terms of caliper thickness, backing paper construction/ weight. This requires that the...
If you are using the Flex-Cut function it is likely to leave slight tabs as these are needed to keep the sticker in place during the cutting process, and allow it to be punched out after cutting is complete. Some people use a deep kiss cut rather than the Flex Cut for this reason. The 60-degree...
Replace the light inks printhead (#2) if you have not done so already. On Gen3 printers (300/ 500 Series) this issue (streaks from the right side that diminish as they progress to the left) is related to one or more printheads that is failing.
Increase OP level in 6-8 percent increments in the print mode that you are using when printing to this smooth banner media.
The other option would be to print using a lower ink density, but this could decrease color gamut.
Increase the amount of Optimizer (at the front panel under Substrate Library...Media...Print Mode). Also check the performance of the Optimizer printhead (#1), clean as necessary, and potentially replace it if needed.
