  1. Wall Mounted Aluminum Sign Frame

I've also purchased "box kits" from Reece and was very satisfied with them. Please check back in with some photos after you get it all figured out and installed.
  2. Wall Mounted Aluminum Sign Frame

Raul, that frame is extruded aluminum - the flat back mounts to the wall and there is a channel for the panel to slide into. Then, the end cap is attached with screws to button it all up and it's done. Ask the customer who installed his other signs so you can track down the source for the...
  3. Dimensional signage ideas for Sheriff badge?

A friend of mine just made this plaque. Engraved wood with CNC, 22 X 12".
  4. Curved Carved HDU

Bill - how deep will the carving be ? I've done shallow sandblasted signs with 1/2" HDU and shallow hand-carved with 3/4" HDU. Made a plywood form and laminated the top carved panel over two sheets of 1/2" HDU (using the foaming Gorilla Glue) to make one solid panel that will never loose its...
  5. Dimensional signage ideas for Sheriff badge?

Edit: What is your time frame for R&D and then production ? I'm a big fan of Dimensional when it comes to official signage such as Law Enforcement badges. work up some "options" for the client that is within your skill sets - or, farm it out to a CNC shop and you do all the finishing. Rule #1 =...

  8. Florida Hurricane - Check in Please

I'm okay here in my area. Still have power and internet, no flooding or other issues. (truly Blessed in this one). Some of our members are down in the Cape Coral, Ft.Meyers, and Tampa areas. And, the McIltrot brothers (SignCraft Magazine). Hoping and Praying all is okay with them.
  9. Wall graphics

for the wall prepwork - tape a large drywall knife to a broomstick and scrape the entire wall a few times to remove any foreign matter such as roller fuzz, dirt, rocks, dried paint, nail hole domes, etc etc etc. The smoother the wall, the better your graphics will look.
  10. Whats vinyl is used on boats and marine things?

For me, it's not really the "brand" of vinyl, but, the preparation of where the vinyl goes. Every smidgen of wax and other contaminates MUST be removed prior to the application of anything; Paint or Vinyl. Or else, you are looking at premature product failure and/or possibly a 2nd trip to the...
  11. 1st Time Using HDU with CNC Router

Nubler - I used to travel around the country giving educational seminars to small sign shops venturing into the HDU world. The most popular feedback that I received to their success was three things: 1. After processing the sign, take the it outside and spray it with a high stream of water from...
  12. Hand Carved / Hand Painted Artwork / Gold Leaf

very nicely done, Richard. On projects like this, we would like to know all the details; what mater you used, tools, paints, yada yada yada
  13. Garden plaque stakes

Florence, we would love to see some photos during manufacture and when you get them installed
  14. Garden plaque stakes

do you have some kind of power tools like table saw, band saw, etc. that you can make your own ? how long is the expected life time in the elements ? What will the plaques be made of and how thick ?? I would be leaning towards PVC pipe. Even 3/16"x3/4" aluminum flatbar from the Box Store will work.
  15. 1st Time Using HDU with CNC Router

welcome to the forum - it would be best if the new members start your own threads and tell us a little something about your shop, tools, equipment, experience (or lack of) before you "jump in" the deep end of the pool. HDU is not cheap, the learning curve can be expensive. Plan your jobs...
  16. Painting Acrylic on top of cured Marine Spar Varnish

totally agree about the scuffing - I seriously think that is not being done in this case. (I'll double check).
  17. Painting Acrylic on top of cured Marine Spar Varnish

yes sir, Bill - that is the standard method for gilding and 1-Shot lettering enamels. I'm talking about Acrylic water based paint applied to a varnished wood project.
  18. Painting Acrylic on top of cured Marine Spar Varnish

thanks Brad - I'm in the same boat as you. I haven't been keeping up with the advances (degradation) and changes either. I am a painter - I paint things - that's what I do. Probably less than 1% of my signwork and other projects are painted with a brush (I don't spray) been doing it since the...
  19. Painting Acrylic on top of cured Marine Spar Varnish

I know there are "old" posts about this, but, our products and procedures are going through some drastic changes these days with the EPA and other things. Take for example; a routed sign made with cypress, cedar or redwood, properly sealed and clear-coated with 3 coats of Marine Spar Varnish...
  20. Suggestions Airplane graphics

this is one of the 5 planes used in the old TV series "Sky King" (and his niece Penny) which belonged to my friend. The decal was HP vinyl and the painting was 1-Shot enamel on HP vinyl. Gently warmed with a heat gun to conform to the curves. It lasted for two years without any issues before he...
