Hey guys, I have a bid on a 5x5' back lit sign, 2 are needed with a full coverage digital print. Installing new faces into existing sign cabinet.

Graphix Calc came up with $1010 installed with 3/16" acrylic plus any scissor lift rental or anything since it's about 15 feet in the air. Still deciding on that part. I came up with $1159 using the old time, materials and mark up calculation.

Thoughts?

Thanks!

Pricing is with uses 2 new faces, They wanted to use existing but one is cracked up bad.

I used this same material for a 4x2.5' sign a few months back and it worked great. Why not for this size?

aye, i only trust lexan or flexface for larger signs like that. a sheet of acrylic has the ability to shatter itself while standing upright in a slight breeze.

Have you looked into the price difference?
Won't be much...

The existing one "being cracked up bad" is all the reason to use Polycarbonate.

Just looked at polycarb and i see it doesn't come in 5x10' sheets which makes it a pain and more cost to the client than acrylic.

You think i should up the thickness to the next size up from 3/16" which is 1/4" since it's large?

Thanks guys!

Check with some other suppliers in your area. 5 ft. is readily available, it comes on a roll to some of the larger suppliers.
They sell it by the foot.

Well, the new owners went and decided to take the old faces down and dropped it lol

Most suppliers sell polycarb off of various size rolls rather than just sheets. I think a 64" roll size is common enough.

Does my pricing look too low, too high or in the ballpark?

Also, Should 3/16" for either polycarb or acrylic work fine for this size?

Thanks!

its much easier to ship, as well, since the sheets can be rolled-up. you should have no problem finding a supplier that can get it to you, pre-cut to the size you need.

Looking at polycarb types, is the MAKROLON SL (SunLife) Polycarbonate Roll Stock good to use?

Many manufacturers, make sure it's translucent and use the correct side facing out. It will be printed on the paper mask.

The roll stock i am looking at is white, the back lit vinyl will be clear with printed design.

I'd use an acrylic pan face myself. Modern sign grade acrylic is just as strong as poly carb and won't yellow like poly carb. The pan will make for a stronger face than just a flat sheet.
