Advice on Rasterlink 7 UV Strength Settings and Primer Usage with Mimaki 7151 Plus II

Hey everyone,

I’m currently using Rasterlink 7 with a Mimaki 7151 Plus II printer and LH-100 inks, Primer and Clear, and I’ve run into a bit of a dilemma when it comes to optimizing the UV strength settings and primer application.

The manuals and Mimaki’s support haven’t been very helpful, as they don’t seem to offer any real-world guidance on why or when you’d need to adjust these settings. Specifically, when it comes to UV strength, there’s no explanation in the documentation on how changing these settings impacts different substrates or print outcomes, and I haven’t found any practical advice online either. Under UV settings one is presented with all of these options yet the manual is very limited.

I Panel Setting
I Emboss Print
I Glossy Print
I Matte Print
I Print and Irradiation
Irradiation Only

And yes I know what glossy and matte print do.

Has anyone here experimented with these settings and found any best practices?

Additionally, I’m trying to figure out what percentage of primer to use in various scenarios. Again, the manuals lack real-world use cases or guidelines for how much primer should be applied depending on the surface, and to what extent the primer should be irradiated by UV light, and how, the curing or drying of the primer affects the adherence of ink to the substrate. How do you balance the amount of primer versus the UV light in different situations?

Has anyone else experienced this gap in the documentation? I’d really appreciate any insight on how to properly fine-tune the UV strength and primer application for the best results with this setup.

Thanks in advance for your help!
