Aftermarket Ink (media one)

I have been using a local owned supply company for 15 years exclusively. They recently sold to Grimco so I went into the last locally owned supply company in St. Louis. I am not as close and don't trust the employees near as much as I did my old supplier so I am looking for advice.

I own a Mutoh Valuejet 48" printer. I asked if they carry my ink. They did not but they did carry Media One. He said they have been selling it for almost 2 years now and I did not need a flush or a profile change. I am very scared to use any aftermarket inks and flushing my system seems scary. I am very interested in the savings I would have with said product. But the thought of having to spend any extra money to fix what is not broken makes no sense either. I have read other things about other inks and have never been interested. With the tough market and my "old faithful" supply company being not around has caused me to look at ways to save money and possibly have a profit again. He sent me out the door with a brand new magenta cartridge that I am staring at right now. I just have a uneasy feeling about using it.

I also bought my printer from Fuji, I was told my smaller 48" unit would not be able to fit the 440ml cartridges. I found Fuji horrible to deal with and they seemed like they were not very knowledgeable on Mutoh equipment whatsoever. The guy at the new supply company told me there is no reason to not use 440ml cartridges and I have a hard time not believing him. They are longer but that is the only difference I can see.

Thank you in advance for any response.

The 440s will 'fit' but are not recommended by Mutoh.

The printer was just not designed around those.
The extra length will make it easier to damage the cartridge holders and components.

I see so it is a use at your own risk? I already damaged the USB on my motherboard for the plotter by tripping over the cable. It is a huge savings I will have to way the risk I guess. I pay somewhere around $70.00 for a 220ml and the aftermarket ink is $80.00 for a 440ml so if you do the math it is a $3000.00 a year + savings. As far as the ink goes if I don't hear a response from someone that actually HAS used media one ink I will just let this magenta collect dust. I think I might try and ask my vendor if he can refer me to anyone currently using it.

Thanks a ton for the responses guys at least now I know.
