AI CS5...What went missing here?

James Burke

Being a grandpa is more fun than working
My computer tanked last weekend and I just loaded my CS5 on a new system. I'm still using Windows XP, but for some reason I see two buttons that are completely missing. Instead of the buttons, you can actually "see through" the Illy window onto the desktop background.

I've numbered the missing buttons "1" and "2".

I suspect #1 was Adobe Bridge, but I'm not for sure. I'm totally clueless as to what #2 was, or if it's just extra space around the search bar.

Anyway, how do I get these back?

Thanks,

JB

Not sure how to help, I do know #2 is to spec your workspace. Wish I could help, this is a new/fresh load of cs5?

EDIT:
Essentials is for the workspace, good guess with the magnifying glass

I had it on my old computer and everything worked fine. I may try to re-load it again. Since it's a new hard drive, it gave me an error when registering with my original serial number. I looks as though I may have to email Adobe and request a new number for this.

Adobe's products use Air & Flash to display the GUI starting in CS4, if your computer has a shoddy graphics card you'll see errors like that on occasion as displaying the GUI takes a lot more horsepower than in CS3 and below. You're running XP so I suspect this is the case. Make sure you have the latest drivers installed for whatever graphics card you do have and that XP is fully updated. http://update.microsoft.com/microsoftupdate/

By the way in those two areas you aren't missing much -- the one on the right there's nothing else there, the one on the left you're maybe missing the Bridge shortcut, the Arrange Workspace shortcut, maybe a few other minor things.

You need to go through the uninstall process first or it won't release the license associated with that serial for another install.
