Am I being unreasonable?

I bought a roll of Avery 2611 wall film a few months ago, I've used the product in the past with good results. I printed some temporary posters for a client of mine to be installed temporarily on drywall, they were up for about 2 months then they removed them.

When they removed the vinyl, it took of large chunks of paint which had to be repaired. I called our supplier who submitted a claim with Avery, I sent samples to Avery, who deemed that the vinyl was fine and it must be an issue with the wall, which was the answer I was expecting to be honest.

I asked the supplier if they would be willing to take back the roll and offer me a full refund in the form of a credit, since I don't have any faith that this product will work for me in the future (I have only used about 10 feet off the roll) They came back and offered me a 75% credit.

Keep in mind this is a supplier who we spend almost $40,000 with last year, and they are hastling me over what amounts to less than $50.

Am I in the wrong by expecting them to go to bat for me and possibly eat the cost of a small roll of vinyl in order to keep me happy?

You are requesting that your supplier provide a refund on materials that were not defective?
How is your supplier responsible for the condition of the wall?

Sorry I forgot to mention in the OP, I'm not buying Avery's explanation, the walls were fine, it's a hospital, the paint on the walls has been there for a minimum of 5 years, and it was painted by a painting contractor, so I think it's safe to assume that all prep work was followed.

the vinyl was removed from the wall properly as well, starting from 1 corner and pulling it back on itself slowly on a 45 degree angle.

I have this exact same product installed on a wall 50 feet from where there were put up, been up for 3 years, i can still peel them off and reapply no issues.

So that would mean the wall was not prepped properly in the affected area..

I know this product well, we use it all the time also .. It is a great product ..

IMO I would never let the client think or tell the client or assume that the wall was done properly ..

I actually always assume it was not, and tell the client before hand that we are not liable for any damage, but of course we will repaint the spots to the best of our ability..

Anything beyond a small simple touch-up, I advise them to bring in a painter...

Its all about disclosures on this one I think..

wall film?

It's been my experience that "wall film" is only meant for CEMENT walls.
Any time you put a sticker on wall board/sheet rock, you risk removing
the paint and/or paper on the sheet rock.

REMOVABLE vinyl is what I would use for a job like this.
Much less sticky. It was a temporary display?
Would have DEFINITELY used removable.

Do you not know what 2611 is? It is REMOVABLE. It is a wall mural vinyl.

Gee thanks for your positive input!

Just for adding to your vast informational stockpile, MANY companies make this kind of item.
Different companies use different names. I have seen rolls of both REMOVABLE and WALL FILM.

Just so you know. Good luck and thanks for sharing your experience.

In Avery's defense, which is not my cup-a-tea..... it does say right up front... for most walls.

Anytime you lose control of your product to the end-user, you are losing perhaps all warranties, also. They sold it to you and you turned around and sold it to your customer. Whether they have a vinyl staff at the hospital or not, you are responsible for the success or failure of your product. Not your supplier. I haven't seen or heard of a re-call on this 2611, so it being an isolated mishap, sounds more like end-user or application failure. I'd check further into their procedure and maybe help them next time.

Unreasonable...... ?? Not really, you don't know how far you can stretch the blame without trying.
