Alrighty then..........

Here's one that came through the website and it goes a little like this.............

Please send us a quote on a 4' x 8' for our building ?? We had asked for a 24" x 36" sign for our receiving dock, but now we need a larger sign.
So I called her and it went like this:

Hi Laurie...... what would you like the sign to be made of ??

Oh no !! Not wood, we want metal
!!

?? Oh, when I said would, you thought I meant what kind of wood do you want...... No, we can make it from aluminum, aluminum composite, wood products and some other substrates, but these are the best for an outdoor sign.

Okay, I guess the aluminum one. How much ??

Do you have a logo and know what copy is going to go on it ??

Yes.

Okay, can you let me know by sending me a file of your logo and what copy you want on it ??

Yes, but do you need that to give me a price ??

Yes, I do.

Alright, we're still designing it, but it's almost ready. My boyfriend is still working on drawing it.

Well, when you have it done, e-mail me and I'll put a quote together for you right away.

Do you have any idea of what it will cost ??

Anywhere from $90. to $1,000.

Oh my................. that much ??

We'll know better once I see the files. Thanks for calling.

Thank you...............

I'm really concerned what kind of file I'm gonna get from her boyfriend drawing this stuff out on paper...........

people really don't know how or what signs are made from so I don't mind them being somewhat duh. what I really hate is the my boyfriend/mother/friend is designing the sign...you just know it will be horrible and totally soemthing that shouldn't ever be made.

I had a lady yesterday tell me I was nuts for quoting a 4x8 composite at $350. She thought it was going to be $40 or so, since it is just plywood.... She got even madder when I told her that a sign permit would be $45....

Nah, they exist, John..... and Think.... I'm not a magnet. I'm just posting some of the funnier ones or the kind that we all hear about. Between our website and phone calls, we get a lot of inquiries in a day's time and when ya been doing this for 40 years, ya tend to have one for just about every scenario out there....... lol

I could probably do one a day and not run out for a year or two with just the doozies.

Ya know, for a small shop, I just did the math and in my time, I've probably answered well over 600,000 calls, between where I worked before and having my own business. That might not be a lot, but it's enough to get some real winners out of it.

Honestly, I hate e-mails like the dickens now.

Jeremy set us up on g-mail a few months and I can't follow conversations for the life of me. I'm always confusing the sh!t out of myself and can't follow the sequences at all. The spam meter is grabbing everything and sending it to my junk or trash folder on it's own and I can't find sh!t worth a sh!t anymore. Did I mention I don't like this new setup called g-mail ??

I swear nobody knows how to express themselves in writing, hence the reason I prefer to do business in person or at the very least over the phone. Email is good for sending files and that's about it.

The one I liked the most was an emailed photo of a tattoo on an arm. That was the supplied artwork. It was fun to work on though.

My favorites are images they ripped off their own website and expect a HIGH quality print up to 6'. Ummmm.... ok. Do you have a larger image with a higher resolution? Usually the send the same 72dpi image stretched with Photoshop and converted to 300dpi... Not what I meant, and I dont have the patience to explain to your marketing team why changing from 72dpi to 300dpi wont make the image magically better.

then they send it as an .eps and just re-name the same nasty low res .jpeg. I get that from "designers" and I do us that term lightly as anyone with a 'puter and a program can sell themselves as a designer

That happens to me at least once a week. I used to fight that battle and send them detailed instructions and examples of what the differences were. Most of the time I wouldn't hear back from them or they'd tell me there were going to do something else and they'd get back to me. Didn't take long to figure out that all most of them were doing was taking it somewhere else who "was capable of printing it."

I had a guy who was in a huge hurry (of course these pay a premium up front for when they screw up so I don't have any chance of eating it) and he said "the whole sign is going to be red, so just order in a roll of red. It was a 48" Roll of Translucent. Went ahead and made his bill out for that, then when the artwork came in, it was all black, and little red pepperonis on a pizza. So he paid more again.

I used to get so frustrated with those kind of calls. Then I just started giving them the price for a 4'x8' 10mil coro and the price for alumacore and would tell them that when I see their artwork I can let them know if any artwork charges would apply. They get some info and I get off the phone without pulling my hair out. Much easier and quicker that way.

Hahahaha.........

So, this morning, I come in to find this marvelous file in a .docx file.
cross roads.jpg
The logo is 1" x 3" at 86dpi.
Okay, so the artwork is atrocious, but do you see anything in here which resembles a 4' x 8' ?? The white background against the pink overlay is their idea of what they want.

I guess if you want to go to shipping and receiving, you have to go to the office first and I guess.... make an appointment.

How can you fit 10lbs of sh!t into a 5lb bag ??

Good Grief....... and the day is just starting. Oh, but my head hurts. I'm gonna stay in my office today, not answer the phone and play games on the computer........ or
