Any advise on sticking vinyl to Brass

I have a customer that wants a brass sign made.. I have the brass piece and prior to installing the vinyl I just wanted to know if anyone had any advise or tips?.. Will vinyl last on Brass? The customer has 2 brass sign already existing with the black vinyl peeling.

I didn't want for my vinyl to have the same effect. I'm using 3m cast black. I plan to use TFX cleaner as a prep for the Brass prior to the install.

Very difficult to guarantee. There are so many ways brass can be finished and prepared, not to mention the environmental variables where the sign is located.

If you want to give a quality product, suggest engraving the brass and paint filling black.

I've got an office building I do lettering for that has brass plaques by the doors. We used brass plate from New Hermes, peeled off the protective covering and sprayed them with Krylon Crystal Clear then lettered them with regular calendared vinyl (originally Spar-Cal, now using Oracal 651). The clear keeps them from tarnishing and showing every little fingerprint.

The oldest tenant signs are 14 years old, the vinyl is holding up fine, the brass is a little deeper yellow than newly polished brass.

Thanks so much for the insite. The bad thing is the customer is looking for that tarnished look overtime. The face of the brass is debris and oil free at the moment....

Unless your customer objects, I would put a vinyl template down and paint on the black, unless you can hand-paint it to begin with.

Should they want it changed at some later date, steel wool it off, re-letter and clear..... good as new.
