Arizona doesn't play around

One of our installers was arrested today for not having the permit with him while doing an install. Is the norm out there or is it more likely he had a warrant? Hilarious either way imo.

I think its funny that YOU think its funny that YOUR installer got popped. If he was YOUR guy, why didn't YOU make sure he had the permit? lol Sucks to be him. I been there though lol.
But I would be curious to know if it really IS like that in Arizona? Here in CA, I don't think a peace officer would know a proper Sign permit from a receipt from Krispy Kreme's. Maybe I'm wrong.
I would think the simple(er) explanation would be for some old warrant. But the sad part is, if this went down today, he probably won't get to see the judge until next week. He is getting fully processed. orange jumper and all, for the weekend. Well at least that is how it works here... of this I'm certain...

Search for his mugshot, it will tell the real reason. I doubt it will say No Sign Permit.

Also, I'm quite positive you don't get arrested for installing a sign without a permit. Forced to stop work and fined, perhaps, but thrown in the slammer? idontthinkso

One way to get arrested is to be none cooperative, installs are serious, sign falls hurts someone, there had best be a permit.
So if inspector says stop, you best be packing with no lip,
They also like the money going to the general fund of city.

An inspector isn't the police.

If you pull up the county he got popped in ... go under jails - daily bookings ... it will tell you what he is in there for and
if you're interested ... how much his bail is. :)

Gotta love them public records

I learned today the guy was arrested for felony larceny because he was collecting A frames that the city doesn't allow. They valued the A frames at $750 each, crazy. Apparently the city asked us to enforce the code as part of a deal we did with them, seems out there to me but its not my company.

so the city hired you to take down illegal a-frames, and then busts you for it?!?

It sounds skethky to me but apparently we were asked to remlve a frames in a particular part of the city that as part of a sign program they hired us for. I would never agree to something like removing a private businesses signs.

yeah that does sound sketchy, all cities have code enforcers and their job is to do exactly this. check and enforce code violations.

Sounds like racial profiling to me.

Something tells me by "Permit" they actually meant "Proof of citizenship". Taking into account that it is Arizona, theirs at least a 50% chance they were just racially profiling.

That's insane that he'd get pinched for not having a permit.

Glad your tax dollars are being used to wisely. :)

I've seen inspectors (zoning and mechanical) in Detroit a few years ago that carried handguns and badges. They were real official up there. I asked why and they both said code enforcement was an extension of law enforcement and they come across some situations every so often with people.
