Backlit sign material question

Greetings everyone. I have done a few of these signs before but only the printing of vinyl. I have a customer looking for the plastic to be replaced as well. Does anyone have any recommendations for a quality material? The sign is 4'x6', and there are no braces for support so the substrate will have to span the whole sign. My concern is plastic bowing in the wind. Is glass more suitable? Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

I haven't climbed up to look at the material that is currently in the frame. I was just called on this and figured I'd start looking around to see what I was facing, material and price wise. I'll stop by on my way home and check it out.
