Best bang for the buck?

Best bang for the buck when it comes to regular photographic type paper for a solvent printer (SP540V)?

My daughter is having a 40th birthday party and wants me to print some posters of her at different stages of her life growing up, they will only be used to hang on the wall for the party then discarded.

Any thoughts?

:thankyou:

Use up some banner material.

Ask your suppliers for sample rolls.

3651 is pretty cheap.

Don't forget to use a high res profile so your printer uses the smaller droplets.

We have an SP540V. (don't buy photo paper because you think you need it) Here is our recipe.(shown to us by an offset guy no less) Oracal 3164 matte with 5mil embossed laminate. Gives a high end studio look.

Make it canvas?

50" x 100' for $178.88 plus shipping $25 from California.

It will create nice matte finish for photos.

Canvas is not a bad idea, it's just that my daughter asked for paper prints, so I was looking for paper, she wants to cut out the images and glue onto posters?

I use the inkjet canvas from Signworld USA (they are a merchant member here), their canvas product is 50"x100' for $159.

Anyone else have any paper options, maybe a 30" wide roll?

:thankyou:

For what she wants to do my suggestion is perfect. You do not need the laminate as the 3164 prints amazingly well. We've done wall art for corporate offices with it.

I do my cheap stuff on Oracal 3640. 54" x 150' for me is $127.50 and your daughter wouldn't need glue to mount them.

My 50" photo paper is 50" x 100' and is $138.45.

Thanks guys, both good suggestions, 300mphGraphics do you use the gloss or matte finish 3640?

From what I can tell, the difference between 3164 (4mil) and 3640 (3 mil) in the thickness?

They are both rated for 4 years and have permanent adhesive.

The 3164 ($117) runs a litter cheaper than the 3640 ($127).

What do you have in stock already?

Something inexpensive...

I don't have any cheap vinyl I would want to use for this project, however one possibility would be to get a roll of retractable banner stand vinyl, that way I would be able to use the remainder of the roll for retractable banner stand projects (I don't have any now).

I usually use the gloss, but have also used the matte with similar results. Without lamination, the 3640 is thin and can be a challenge to mount (especially with heavy solid prints) so maybe the extra thickness of the 3164 would be beneficial?

There is another difference between the two, 3640 is a solvent based adhesive, and the 3164 is water based. Both say solvent printable. My local supplier only has the 3640 so that is my only experience.

Thanks for the tip, you are right, the thicker would better (and cheaper) for this application.

Now I will look for a good price, Grimco, Signwarehouse or US Cutter (no more cowboy for me my choice)

:thankyou:
