This may be a "taboo" or politically incorrect topic to bring up, but looking for some insight.

A few years ago I used "Brands of the World" a couple time to find logo files, but I see that now one must register/log-in to use that site.

So what's the dope with that site, is its use frowned upon? Is it illegal? If so, by registering, do you not reveal who & where you are?

Seeking clarity.

Not a big deal as a website as I see it. It really comes down to after downloading a logo file to how you use the logos and if you have appropriate rights to do so.

If you're really concerned about being "known" by the site (which is Russian, by the way), then just get yourself a yahoo or gmail address that is named after your favourite (or un-favourite) dog, cartoon character, ex-girlfriend, whatever and register with that.

Dont use it much but I have an account. No biggie. Come in handy once in a while in a pinch. I'd venture to guess half or more of us here have resorted to these more than once before. Gotta be careful though - often times the logos there are crude recreations or outdated.

I've gotten some very good quality logos from BOTW and logotypes.ru, but yeah... most are a bit scribbly.

I also have used the site. Often for the company I'm making a logo for. I have gotten it easier from BOTW then getting it from the client.

The problems arise when selling Harley Davidson and Nike decals on e-bay.

I use it when moron secretaries can't get me their corporate logo in an appropriate format other than "uhh.. can you scan my business card?"

BOTW is under new ownership as of a few years ago, thats why you must register to download now.

Always double-check your logo downloads, too. Several times I've downloaded logos that were close, but not exact. Thankfully I've always caught it but it's something to watch out for.

It's a great site. I've been using it for years. Like others mentioned, you just have to be sure to check that the logo you download is current and active. Even some big corporate well known logos have evolved slightly over the years.

The issues with copyright and trademark infringement come into play with reproduction of the logos. Just make sure you aren't doing anything outside the guidelines of the owner of the trademark. If you're unsure about something and want to cover your ***, get permission.

I get this at least once a week. Some I have found on BOTW. Others I just turn into vector and charge for the time. BOTW has some good stuff and some outdated stuff. Just be sure you are using the correct logo, and that you are using it correctly.
