building oversized framed aluminum signs with a blank acrylic/lexan/polycarb face?

nashvillesigns

Making America great, one sign at a time.
So, has anyone done this? aluminum only comes a certain length, and i would like to think using a 172" long lexan face would be a alternative?
there would be no seam.
are there any downsides besides weight?

thanks in advance..

when building a 1"tubed framed sign with ".75 3/4" inch anodized molding, you mostly use .040 aluminum as your backer. When dealing with oversized signage, AKA 30' long, you must use three ten foot panels of aluminum.
i am asking anyone about switching those panels, with a 30' piece of polycarbonite. (acrylic, doesn't come that long…)

ah, refacing? polycarb would be the way to go. that big a piece of acrylic would be sure to crack eventually.
