California Contractors License

I'm looking over the requirements for a CA License and I am wondering how strict the board is on experience. I have 6 years in the sign industry, some of it self employed, only one year is with a company that did Electrical and had a license themselves. My installer has 2+ years with electrical signs and 8 years with general contracting.

Could anyone from CA please share their experience with the CSLB?
