Can anyone help with this effect?

can anyone tell me how to replicate this? when I bring up a text and thicken the stroke it will start to "eat into" the letter it's self. I want to put these borders around the text but thought I would get some insight..thanks

Simple way in Illy: Ctrl C, then Ctrl B to paste a new layer in Back. Add stroke(s) to back layer(s).

This should get you started..

Also, offset path in illustrator will do that. Object ... Path ... Offset Path. It does a similar effect and i use it a good bit for cutpaths on the roland.

there are so many ways to to that.... mostly off set path.
but in the new versions of illy you can go into the appearance palette and put the strokes behind the fills and the new strokes behind those. that way the strokes only show outside the fill of the letters

offset path in illy works wonders. now that he knows how to do that instead of trying to use the stoke option he will have outlines upon outlines upon outlines on his upcoming jobs. i know i did...lol.

i made a logo similar to this with the path offset command. however when i bring it into flexi to plot. All the background wants to cut over itself. Any way to cut just the outline of the outlined letters? hope this makes sense.
