Found it on another forum that they have listed as Mutoh Valuejet 1604 A. Cant seem to find any good documentation or information about it. Let me know what you think of this printer.

The ValueJet 1604A was the first 64" ValueJet printer. It has a top speed of 145 SFPH and was a very good machine. It uses the same ink as all of the other Eco-Solvent ValueJets. The reason you might not be able to find any information on it is most people don't put the 'A' in the model number. The A stands for America so you can just look up information on the ValueJet 1604. It was replaced by the ValueJet 1614.

are there any key things to look for when buying a used one??? I know some "models" on 1st gen equipment typically have certain flaws that they correct in later models.

Just the normal things that you would look for on any used printer. Have a good look at the nozzle check, make sure the pump is working and print out the error log to see if the printer is having any error messages that are repeating.

The main difference between the 1604 and 1614 was the placement of the ink cartridges. The 1604 holds its ink carts horizontally. With the 1614 Mutoh moved the slots for the carts to the top of the printer so 440ml carts could be held with less of a chance that the weight of the cart would weaken the seal to the ink lines.
There's not a major disadvantage to the original design but you'll probably have better success with it using 220ml instead of 440ml carts.
As Tim has advised, be wary. Used equipment may have been left idle for months causing clogged heads and lines requiring significant investment to bring it up to speed.

Be penny wise!!! Research and test until you are confident of what you are about to invest in. By the way, is this your first venture into wide format digital printing?

no ive been in digital printing but it will be the first time i will own a mutoh. Ive used gandi and mimaki in the past.

I have a 1614 and it works great, does an excellent job on quality. A friend of mine runs a 1604 and has had it several years with out major issues other than standard wear items. Just check it out thoroughly and you should be happy.
