I have a customer asking for canvas prints stretched on to frames. I have the printing part taken care of I just need to know a source or method for stretching these prints onto a wood frame. Any help would be appreciated.

Are you doing a standard wrap (1"), gallery wrap (2") or museum wrap (3")? most art supply stores will only carry 1" stretchers at a reasonable price. If you are going for a 2" stretcher, I make my own just by taking my table saw and cutting the drop edge with that, and cutting my 45's on a mitre saw, with standard wood glue and brad construction. here is a little image I made for a buddy who was starting out with making stretchers himself (museum wrap 9'x15' canvases .. yeesh.) if it's large, adding support corners and support bars help reduce warping over time. Basically the idea for a stretcher is to provide a drum stretched surface, so as small as you can make the wood touching the canvas without being weak and breakable is the ideal. one other small thing I do is cut the corner so when you wrap the canvas on a digital print you aren't doing a double fold on the print, simple V cut does wonders for that.

Applied to a box

Instead of the stretcher bars...does anyone know how to put the canvas to a hard art box...it would still be wrapped. I have seen these in galleries/stores. Utrecht has the boxes but I am not sure about applying the printed canvas to it. Does anyone do this type?

I've seen three like this, one is basically a masonite substrate with 2x2 risers on the back to frame the work, then it is wrapped like a standard canvas (with back staples)

the second I've seen is basically the same thing, but it is secured with adhesives like a piece of wallpaper or a cheap paper print.

The third is where it is applied to a piece of MDO that has been routed to have a decorative edge with a key hole hanger cut in the back then the print is attached with epoxy and trimmed and edge painted. very cheap looking.

We get our bars from Tara Materials.

We assemble the frame and utilize a stretcher for mounting.

We do 1.5" & .75" frames.

I bought the easy wrap system from Breathing Color. Oh my gosh it looks so much easier then the stretching and stapling. Thanks Guys!.

Yes...it was un-believably easy. I used to hate doing those....and now so simple. And the end product is very sharp...nice and tight! no bumps.
