Cart change out question VJ 1304

When the printer throws up a low ink warning while printing is it advisable to change it right away or can you wait until it stops with an "ink end" message to get those last few ml out of the bag? Will it resume once its changed or will the print under the head be toast?
Is the smart card smart enough to throw up the "ink end" message and stop the printer before air enters the line from the empty ink bag?

I checked the Mutoh knowledge base but there was no knowledge there for me.

hit enter to cancel the beep. better than canceling the job! you can run it dry, just realize if you are printing a dark color, and your platten heater is set high, you may get a color line if you are not there ready with a fresh cart to swap (NO MATTER WHAT MUTOH SAYS!). trust me, we are on mutoh #4 for the last two years. it will leave a line if you delay, and if your heater settings are high, the swap itself will leave a line.

this is why the 64" has sub tanks. it will keep printing after the cart is dead so you can hot swap with no stoppage of the print head.

Wayne Great Question, I always had the impression not to let them run out because it will cause another issue(s):cross contaminate.
I know the 1204 & 1304 are not equipped sub-tanks, that's my concern.

It would be a good question for RandyA

if they sit empty, the cross contamination will be an issue. happened to us over TDAY weekend on the cleaning cycle. long weekend, yellow cart ran out, it cross contaminated. but if you let it run dry during a print, and swap it out to keep printing, you will have no problems.
