Cobian Backup Software

I have switched to Cobian. Thanks Choucove.

I have to say, not a bad piece of software. I've set a couple of different tasks, depending on folders that require more regular back ups and ones that don't require as much.

It can schedule back ups, you can choose incremental, full, etc. There are many options available.

As Choucove brought to my attention in my previous thread above, the real handy part of Cobian, is that it keeps the files in the same format/structure. I can literally take my back up to my laptop, and have instant access to my files just like a normal folder - because it is a normal folder.

The simplest way to put it, is that Cobian is a very tweakable copy/paste batch tool, and works very well.

Definitely worth a look for quick and easy back ups that are very light on your system and run as intended.

Yeah that's the big reason why I like backup programs like Cobian is it's really taking and doing a mass "copy/paste" so all the data is just as it was before, it's not compressed together into some specific file type that you have to use a specific program to open and restore all your computer or files to be able to see the data again.

Glad it's working out well for you!

I also followed that thread and tried Cobain Backup. It's been plugging away doing a full backup of my C drive since last night. It's nice to be able to pause the backup operation when I need to do something on the computer. Hopefully the differential backups will go a lot quicker!

Bumping this older thread back up. I have been playing the "what works good for my backup needs" game for a while now with varying levels of mostly dissatisfaction.

Recently downloaded version 11 of this software and it's working fast and great! No compressed data or image files of your data that you have to use a program to restore if needed. It makes copies of all your files & directories, like a mirror of the original location. Seems like this will make for a faster "up and running again" time if the origianl drive with your files on it were to fail.
Also seems like the initial backup goes much faster than the other programs I have tried which create an image of the files rather than just exact copies.

I am backing up to a Synology server with two raid-mirrored drives in it over ethernet cable which runs underground to my detached install bay/shop.
-Hopefully enough to protect my data in most scenarios... hopefully.

Roper of Goats. Old ones.
doesn't sound like its any different than FolderClone, either.

We've been backing our data up with it everyday for the last 10 years or so...
