I have a customer who requested PMS 339 and PMS 4695. I've gone through my color chart books, comparing them to my PMS book. I can't find anything close. Anyone have any ideas ??

:thankyou:

Allowing the customer to specify exact colors is a can of worms.

Color matching is a whole industry in itself. Colormunki Photo can help you get pretty close though. There are other color matching systems that will also help you create profiles for different types of media/ink combinations. Most are priced well into the thousands. Colormunki is about the cheapest besides printing samples and eyeballing it. If you go the eyeball route, besure to take into account the type/color/brightness of light that the output will be used/viewed in.

Sometimes, when you are working with corporate headquarters, which paid a lotta money to have their logo revamped, the designer didn't give two hoots about matching vinyl color charts. In fact, sometimes these mental midgets seem Hellbent on making it tough to find matches.

Yes, I want to do solid die cut vinyl, as it's basically nothing on these signs, except a logo and a word here or there for directions. I can match the color pretty much spot on with our printers, but I want to give them something that will last longer. More people are paying better prices these days, knowing they'll get a sign lasting longer than 3 or 4 years.

We were just talking about this, our's was about Bank Of America's red and blue.

When the corporate designers spec out everything except vinyl brand and color, you end up with
inconsistent logos because every sign shop has their own ideas of what color and brand
fits best.

What's real fun is Dunkin Donuts orange and pink spected 3M vinyl can only sold to one sign company, and they won't
sell to other sign shops, so that they have the monopoly....

The closest thing I saw was 3M Light Kelly Green for 339 & 3M Dark Brown.

The closest thing I saw was 3M Light Kelly Green for 339 & 3M Dark Brown.

That green is not near close enough and the brown is wa-a-a-ay off.

I just talked to the guy and I'm gonna re-quote it using digitally printed inkjet with laminate. I gave him some preliminary numbers and he seemed to like them. Then he says, no one else ever had trouble matching our colors. I told him, I won't either, now that we're printing it, but in the vinyl die-cut world, it's almost impossible. One lasts longer, while the other will look better. You just hafta choose which route you wanna go.

We already got a substantial deposit, so, I'm not afraid of re-visiting 'Quote-Land'.

:thankyou: everyone for the speedy answers.

I thought I would try, but I'm not much help on the 339. The 4695 I thought was half-azz close to 3m Deep Mahogany Brown which is actually closer to 4625. Nothing else was even worth mentioning. Good luck!
