IL Connecting HDU sign to pillars

8’ x 4’ x1.5” HDU sign will be installed between two cultured stone pillars. Looking for an easy secure way to do so. Thinking of just having a 2” metal “L” bracket installed on the side of each pillar running the length of the sign. Then with the HDU sign already having side supports built into the sign, just screwing from behind the sign into the L brackets. Do I need to be thinking of a different way? Am I not thinking of a potential issue?

HDU is tough to screw to - a slight twist too much and it crumbles away. We routinely weld up rear support frames using awning "flange" tubing which give us a lot of surface to glue ( typ. Weld-On 30 ) and then very coarse short screws ( we often use 1-1/4" Tap cons since they have the coarsest thread we have been able to find ).

Jim....... why did you use hdu on a sign like that ?? Nothing looks recessed. Also, why no reinforcement out around the edges if it is hdu ??

As for david, ya might wanna build your frame and instal it beforehand and I'd use 3 stringers, not just one.

We use welded alum tube frames for support. We cut into the back side about 0.25in and epoxy the frame to the HDU.
