Considering new Mutoh 1624...

Most who know me realize we run Mutohs here at our shop and both my 1604 and 1304 are running fine. However, there is some really good pricing right now due to Mutoh's year end sale. Looks like best price I've found is from SignWarehouse for just the 1624 printer - we don't really need the fluff of the ink/media samples, etc. Just a new printer.

So, anyone have anything bad to say about the 1624? Still not 100% sold on latex yet and other than upgrading our RIP to run the 1624 we should be able to be up and running quickly...

*NOTE - I have to pull the trigger by tomorrow if I'm going to do this....thoughts?

Ours seem to have bi-chromatic banding, (lawnmower banding).
Our first one had a tracking issue on long runs, the banner material skewed causing problems.
That has since been worked out, still working on the bi-chromatic banding.
Make sure your rip software allows for five droplet size, instead of three droplet size as this may help.
I am installing updates to our Caldera rip to see if the issue goes away.
I have tried numerous profile attempts to rectify this to no avail. Certain colors just look fuzzy, not solid.
Sure hope the software update helps. Not that it looks bad, but we notice it for certain, lol.
Now you print with bulk ink set-up correct? I found a way to hack the machine but it requires the smart card to remain in the machine while printing, unlike the older machines. I purchased a bunch of 1 liter card codes and have had great luck, but it is a cost.

On the positive side, the machine prints real quiet and sure prints quicker than our 1604's and 1614's.
Also the 1624 offers an app that monitors the printer, for night runs and such, that gives info such as stopped printing and ink low.

Yes, I would be sticking with bulk ink (JetBest) using a Nite bulk system. I just talked to JetBest who said that they do offer cards for this machine, but at an add'l cost. So yeah, I guess there is that to consider.

However, the price I'm being quoted is so good, I'm having a hard time not pulling the trigger - but since I'm diligent, I'm talking to people and making sure this will be a good fit for us.

Anyone else want to chime in?

Best Price

I'm a Mutoh Dealer in Denver who would like to give you a quote. We sell and service and I can tell you the 1624 printers do not get a lot of service calls.
Shoot me a pm and I'll get you a quote.
