Crashed PC - Gerber Edge 2.02 - A Challenge!

Hello

It's a saga, so bear with me.

We had a PC running a Gerber Edge 2, the hard disk crashed and is trashed. I'm an in-law with no sign making equipment experience but I am in IT so am trying to help resurrect things. Also, very little to go on in terms of what was installed on the original drive, they used Composer and from what I've found this is the Omega app? No idea what version etc.

There is a blue Parallel Port dongle which has Graphix Advantage 6.21 on it plus S/N etc.

We scoured desks looking for CD/DVD's etc. What I have is:-

Dongle: As above

Software:-
- Omega 2.02 (+ SP3)
- Graphix Advantage 6.0
- Graphix Advantage 6.21 SP2
- Other Gerber fonts etc

I setup a PC with a fresh XP SP3 install, 2 LPT ports, 1 COM (all recognised in device manager and working OK) and attached the dongle to LPT1.

Im struggling to get any install I try to work as it fails with the dongle each time

Omega 2.02 looks for an updated Security Block and loads Copy2USB which fails. I have an RBLOCK report, can share if it helps?

Graphix Adv 6.0 fails at GSP Security Block check

Given the block has "Graphix Advantage 6.21" labelled I suspect we're missing a disk?!

I guess I'm asking does anyone know if there is a step I'm missing to get the dongle recognised, or is it the wrong version of software I am trying? Any ideas much appreciated!

Apologies for the lack of specifics, but thats all I have to go on!

Cheers

Everything is right except the dongle. Omega 2 took the licensee through a one time transition to a USB dongle and disabled the old LPT dongle in the process. You need to locate the USB dongle and plug it in while removing the old LPT dongle which is no longer usable. You will then, hopefully, be able to perform a successful install.

As a secondary note, I have on several occasions, taken my PC to our computer guy when the hard drive has supposedly crashed. In every case, he was able to clone the old drive onto a new one and save everything on it in the process. This eliminated the need to go through any resetup of the PC.

Thanks Fred

I spotted that Cope2Usb option in the 2.02 install menu, the original PC didn't have anything in the USB port when I took it away, but I'll follow up tomorrow. I did install the Sentinel drivers from the 2.02 disk anyway

Re: the drive, it is definately kaput. I checked t myself but also gave it to an IT hardware specialist who confirmed. The spindels seem wrecked, you can hear the drive trying but clicking sounds etc. We could possibly look at data recovery services, but that can cost 000's, and besides the original PC was a dinosaur so would be good to get it running on a faster box anyway.

Thakns again for the reply, appreciate it.
