Just curious on how many people actually create ICC profiles for their machines Vs how many people used Canned or Generic profiles?

If you want to control your color - you need to create your own profile.
If all you are doing is pleasing color - let someone else do the color work for you.

Not sure where you're getting at? I get the first sentence. But don't totally understand the second one? Someone else - i.e pay someone to create it or canned?

It's better to have two hands than one glove.
Most anyone who has been shoveling on this sandpile for more that a couple of minutes knows my attitude towards excessive reverence of profiles and profiling in general. That notwithstanding I use a single, as in one, profile for 99% of everything I print on all manner of vinyl, canvas, and banners. It started out life as Oracal's 3651G profile in which I changed the rendering intents and jacked up the algorithms for dither and gradients. It suits my needs just fine and no client has ever complained in any way about the quality of the print.
