Cut Contour question.

Jim Hill

New Member
I am using CorelDraw version 12 and all of my images are done in vector.

I am sending these images to a Mimaki printer cutter and need some help with how to put the cut contour line around each image so that the cutter can cut it.

I have read how to do this using the contour tool in Corel and I understand that if I was sending these images to a Roland Printer that I would have to set a up a spot color for the cut contour line.

My question is do I need to do this same thing to send images to a Mimaki?

My friend who owns the Mimaki and says any color outline will work and he told me to just use the pen tool instead of the contour tool.

Since I have over a thousand images to add this cut contour to I want to make sure I do it right the first time.

Thanks Jim

Use a hair line of a different color than the rest of the print. White is a color for this purpose. Send it to the printer in EPS format.

Mr. Hill,

In reference to your question, the MIMAKI printer cutter, what model ?
Also you mentioned Roland printer ? What model ?

If you have 1000+ artwork to contour cut, you want to use Flexisign software to add contour cut and save as EPS (with contour layer), Roland RIP that works with Print/Cut machine will understand flexi contour and print and cut with our any problem.

However, if you using vinyl cutter with ARMS like Mimaki Cutter CG series; for example, you will need to follow the FINECUT software of how to add the contour cut which normally involving using Corel Draw or Illustrator to generate outline and make it contour cut layer before you sending it to Mimaki CG cutter.

Again, with Flexisign software, you can easily create a more precise contour with about 2 clicks (with holes or compound option), Corel v12 need custom outline drawing to make it happen, Corel v13 (X3) has the contour button but for complex vector artwork this can be a bit more steps as well. With Flexisign, about 1-2 clicks and most RIP-Print/Cut will understand it. Perhaps, just have the contour on different layout will do the trick.

For 1000+ images, using Corel v12 will consume a bit of time.

Anyone else ? easier approach ?
