detect size not working

Alrighty, so I'm trying to get the shops plotter (roland camm-1) to have it's roller width detected in flexi (flexi 7) for smaller pieces of material. For some reason it is just locking the software right up. The roland has MM for measurement and of course flexi is set to inches so I think that is the problem. Only ... my studio setup is like that and I don't have a problem with detection (studio is using flexi 8)

Anyone have any idea what could be causing this and know of a fix?

Bad cable most likely. Been there.
could be bad cable routing though too. Not too close to an outlet or powerstrip?

doesn't seem to be a bad cable anywhere ... could it be a driver issue?
