Diesel exhaust turning laminated vinyl black

We did these trucks about 3 three years ago using Oracal 3551 RA, Oraguard 290. The graphic is up in the corner of the trailer where the exhaust comes out and is turning black as a result. I see fully wrapped (tractor) trailers out there and they are clean in that area. We are using 3M now but still using the Oracal 290 lam as it feeds better in our laminator (reverse wound). Will the 3M lam make resist the diesel exhuast better?

The new trucks with DPF systems will leave no soot. You said it was done 3 years ago with no mention for the age of the truck.

New EPA regs are such that the latest diesels have almost zero odor and zero particulate emissions. This would preclude the weekly wash.

Thanks! It's a fleet so I doubt they'll be waxing them. If they ask, the soot thing will be a good comback. I just wondered if anyone has had this problem/solution.

Also running Biodiesel is cleaner. I have seen plenty of trailers blackened, painted and wrapped.

Yep, supposadly if it's got an exhaust fluid mixture...there's nothing coming out. My dad just bought a new diesel truck and you can put your nose right up to the exhaust and smell nothing. It's pretty incredible.

Pretty much what everyone said RE emissions.

It wouldn't hurt to apply a coat of wax to the area that's darkening after you do an install and see what happens.

Does he know if he runs out of that fluid the truck will just turn off....I have a new tractor and have to add that crap....better fuel milage...untill you see how much that exhaust fluid costs!!!! I feel like a sucker now for buying it!!!

I get the stuff in drums for $350, supposed to run 300 miles per gallon, what a pain!!!

Try cleaning them with LA's Awesome from the dollar store. Spray on, let sit, scrub with a damp scrub brush, rinse. You might just be thanking me. Next step would be Cleaning detail from CRC if the awesome does not get it.

Big Rigs Exhaust come out the top and go sraight up, that why you dont see the soot. im assumming the trailer your talking about is pulled by a dullie.

Customer should try cleaning their trucks on a more regular basis.

+1

I do a lot of semis and 'been told by many guys that sometimes when rolling down in cities (when there's a lot more traffic), air flowing in the engine is more polluted than what's running out of the stacks (mufflers). You can let a tractor run inside the shop for the time you need without any smell / red eyes. Old dogs, that's another story...

New engines run very clean. You can see 6 months old rigs with the inside of pipes still chrome!!!

I have always had diesel duallys and the factory side exhaust always made my trailers blackened. Now I may have had it turned up and programmed but thats besides the point..... I put stacks on the truck and never had an issue again. I just got a good hig quality car wash concentrate and the trailer washed right up
