When my kids were born we labeled a bunch of their bottles with their initials cut in Oracal 651 on one side and the other side with a label made from laminated IJ40. They were run through the dishwasher almost every day for a year. The factory printing washed off the bottles....the vinyl letters and labels looked brand new.
My wife has a 2" Wyoming bucking horse made from Avery 900. It's been on her coffee cup for 2 years going through the dishwasher weekly. It's starting to show some wear but it's still on there.
We also gave the daycare a bunch of end cuts of vinyl that couldn't be used. They labeled all the bottles and things that get washed in bleach water several times a day. Held up really well considering it wasn't laminated.
Glad I stumbled on this thread... I get asked this quite often an my answer is always; "I cannot guarantee that..."! Think I'll try a couple for my own use and see how they hold up!
I make drink chips for a local bar using poker chips + IJ35/8510.
they run returned chips through the dishwasher everyday, high temp, and have yet to see one fail in over 5yrs.
Aqua Print might be worth looking into. It's labor intensive so it may not be ideal for a large run but should work for smaller runs. Otherwise I would just sub the job out to a dye sublimation shop with a mug press.
We have not done a lot of these but even 651 will stick quite a while. We do recommend hand wash and if they must use a dishwasher then low heat or drip dry.
I use Oracal 651 on cups all the time... Besides here at work I play drums too and we sell thermal cups with our logo on them, haven't heard a complaint in the 3 years we've been selling them.
