I got a request from a customer if I could print on clear vinyl. It is possible with the JV3-160sp? Does it hold up well? thanks

Assuming that there is a variant of solvent ink in the printer, you should be able to image onto PVC vinyl, either clear or opaque. Clear media will not provide a white base to bounce the ink off, so you should expect the output to look less vibrant than it would on a white opaque media.

Yes, you can print on clear vinyl, laminate, and even 15" wide 220 clear enamel receptive. Laminate it with the appropriate clear like any other print and you're good to go.
Print-cut requires a non-optically-clear backer.

Mimaki - clear vinyl

I have printed many many rolls of Orajet clear vinyl on a Mimaki 63" printer.
No problems, though beware the heat setting, as the clear stuff puckers before
other white vinyls, such as the Tru-Stock stuff most shops use now.

You also might want to add .5 seconds to the head travel time, and use an ink-heavy profile,
to make sure your image is sharp and bright on the clear material.

Rock on!

Without white ink, I don't think you will get the results you are looking for. You will be surprised at how "see through" ink is without a white backer, especially if you are applying the decal to a window or other clear surface. I usually recommend printing on white and contour cutting as an alternative.
