I have to get a file printed and I am having issues.
File built with Illustrator
RIP is VERSA
Printer is XC 540
The file is a tiff with a few vectors placed on top of it and some text down the middle. Overall printed size is 228" x 40.5". I used photozoom pro to enlarge the picture to the final output size. Placed it into illustrator and then shrunk scaled it down to 1/4 scale. Then placed the vectors and text on top of it. When I print there are 2 lines through the print. Exact same place every time. Can see them in the pics attached. File is too large to save as a EPS. Exported as a tiff and loaded into versa. Even tried flattening the whole thing first then putting in versa. Same thing. Anyone know what would be causing this? I need to get this printed my morning. Thanks in advance.

Easy one... you have something on your linear encoder scale. Look right right around the same place (a couple of inches left and right).
Clean it off and you'll be good to go.

I got it. Not saying you were wrong InkjetAuction but I lowered the resolution and it stopped doing it. I am going to clean the encoder strip after the print finishes! Makes no sense to me why lowering the resolution would help.....but it did.
Thanks

Lower resolution is probably firing larger dots so the line isn't visible. If you attempted to print another file at the same resolution, you theoretically should have the same problem in that same spot if it's the encoder strip.

Hey crny1,

Both InkjetAuction and dale911 are correct. The problem is likely related to a dirty/soiled encoder scale, so cleaning it should help; and when printing at a lower resolution, the variable dot type changes and can mask the problem. Ultimately if the problem persists, it's recommended that you consult with your regional Roland dealer to continue the conversation. It's possible parts are needed and they would be the people to talk to about repairing the printer.
